    What was your first waymark?

Mine first waymark was Lunch Break in Charlotte Harbor (WMJJA)... which is outdated so I had logged in to that old account to set it invisible. Even though that was my first waymark, it was really being able to waymark firehouses that got me hooked. I've still got a very modest number of waymarks posted and visited. I'd love to hear from everybody else.

What was your first waymark (posted and/or visited)?

Mine was a mural, closely followed by a few other murals.

A Neon Sign, though technically, I had taken the photos for a Public Playground before I got to this.  I just created the neon sign waymark first.

What drew me in was a thread in the gc.com forums by famed cacher El Diablo, which led me to look at the site again.  I was thrilled to find a Labyrinth had been posted near where I work -- I love those.  I started using my weekly caching time to waymark instead, for a while anyway.  It was a lot easier to find new things to mark than new caches that were convenient.

The Great Plank Road, Portland, Oregon on 9/21/2005.  I waited a long time after that before posting another waymark to see if anyone would visit it.

Waymark WM3C  was my first. It was for the Eugene Public Library. Mine also says I reviewed it but I didn't. I think it was reviewed by Bootron.  I believe it was the first in Oregon. Cool

My second was for a McDonalds. Stick out tongue

Re: What was your first waymark?

First waymark was the Pearl Street Grill & Brewery (WM94) in downtown Buffalo, only a couple blocks from where I work. Still go there once a month or so for lunch. Good beer too from what I've heard.

So how does the numbering work? My WM3C is a few days older than BQ's and Raymans but it seems as thought with the letter it should be younger. I submitted mine on the 16th and theirs came on the 18th unless I am looking at something wrong.

My first waymark was WMJ1 - Robinson Pit, Oregon in the Active Quarries category.

The key number for you too look at is the 3 in as the second and theirs are both 9's.  It uses the first digit up through the numbers then through letters (minus a few) then goes to the second digit and does same.  Yours was in before theirs and is a lower number.

Yup.. Waymarking, like Geocaching uses Hexadecimal values... but I think it removes certain characters so instead of base 36, it is really only base 32. 0 and O would be confused so "OH" is killed off leaving only "Zero". I ("EYE") is another character you will never see used.

So yes, as Bruce says... your 3 is earlier than my 9. Easy way to do it is to %drop2 the WM part off then think like normal math.

58H2 would be older than 5CH2, because 8 comes before C

See Wikipedia on Base 32 and scroll down to alternate versions.

Re: What was your first waymark?

When I first started Waymarking I was only interested in Ohio Historical Markers, so for quite a while they were all I posted.

This one, wasn't the very first one I posted (it was the third, but posted the same day as the first one) but it was the first one that I marked and photographed.

    Thanks guys. Very interesting. Cool

So if I get this right then 3C would be about the 80th waymark give or take a few vowels that are left out of the values.

Re: What was your first waymark?

I'm a VERY recent convert to Waymarking, so no cool 4 digit waymarks for me.

How I made the switch was kinda interesting.... you know how a lot of us came over from geocaching.com...

I was out visiting the First Geocache in Canada and wanted to see the plaque - so I spent some time parked at the side of the highway looking up the location at Waymarking.com

This was my first waymark VISIT - First of its kindFIRST - Canadian Geocache Monument.

As for my first waymark POSTED, well that occurred the same day - when I drove by a Red Telephone Box at Peggy's Cove and remembered how excited "Another Waymarker" that I knew was about them.

This is the Telephone Box: Red Telephone BoxesRed Telephone Box near Peggy's Cove Lighthouse

Followed shortly by a few more waymarks, and by the time I got home - I was hooked!

Re: What was your first waymark?

My first was:  http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM4P73  which, I believe was the first cemetery to be waymarked in Saskatchewan.  I have about 45 or so posted now.  I thoroughly enjoy waymarking, and I like this forum.  Thanks for letting me in on this!!

Re: What was your first waymark?

Okay, don't laugh - I started with a McDonalds at a very scenic location in Alton Bay, NH, on 2/21/2006  WM7WV.  There weren't very many categories back then, and this was an easy way to test the waters and see if I could actually create a waymark!  Gee, coming up on my third anniversary . . . .

There's nothing to laugh at there... my #2 was a McDonald's and at that time I had promised myself it was the only one that I would make..... Ha, I kill me!

Re: What was your first waymark?

Mine was the Great Park in Irvine, CA (WM2GRX) back in November 2007. I remember thinking at the time "a geocache shouldn't go here." It was then I seriously thought about Waymarking as a cool alternative. ;-)

Re: What was your first waymark?

    Our first waymark was http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM63Z

It's our home, and we moved in, in January 2005, and we waymarked it in January 2006. It was also our first locationless cache before that. There weren't too many categories back then.
