Thank you, that is what I thougth, but wanted to sure. I with choice to abstain when I see a group that I have no interest in, but think that others may. I will vote No on those that I think shoiuld not granted.
If you have no interest in a category, you have the choice of not posting or visiting waymarks into that category. Your opinion about the category is irrelevant in Peer Review, even for an Abstain vote.
In Peer Review, your vote should be based on the guidelines, which are outlined on the Peer Review page.
The time to vote Abstain is when you have no desire to vote "no" but have a constructive improvement comment that prevents you from voting "yes", or when you are truly undecided but wish to let the category officers know so they can write a better description after Peer Review. Voting to abstain because of your personal opinion about the subject matter, because maybe one of the officers didn't say something you liked in the forum, or because you just want to click a form button is a waste of vote and time for the category officers.
The more you practice leaving your personal opinion about a category's subject during Peer Review, the better. It'll also keep you from voting to approve a category you really like that needs serious work before it appears in the directory.
