    Automated Thanks!

I've noticed that some people are now sending out what appears to be automated "thank you for visiting" e-mails.  I've gotten about 4 or 5 in the last 3 weeks.  Anyone else seeing this trend?  One is fine but getting multiple from the same person is a bit annoying.  I appreciate the thought but seems a bit unnecessary.

    Re: Automated Thanks!

Please post an example of an automated "thank you for visiting" e-mail.  I thank every Waymarker and Geocacher that finds my Waymarks or Geocaches.  It is a standard format: "Thank you for visiting my waymark -- (the name of the waymark).  Rose Red (Maureen) or "Thank you for finding my historical geocache -- (the name of the geocache).  Rose Red (Maureen).   Sometimes I thank the Waymarker also for posting photo(s) especially if the photo(s) is/are outstanding.  I figure if a Waymarker or a Geocacher has gone to all the trouble to find my cache or waymark, I can take a few minutes to thank them.  I would not have a problem with an automated "Thank you for visiting."  At least it is a Thank You.  I dislike it when I get NO responce at all.

Thank you for visiting my waymark -- XXXX Waymark and for the photograph.  I really enjoyed looking for geocaches (esp. Virtuals), benchmarks and creating waymarks in Washington, D.C. and the surrounding countryside.

One I don't mind.  I logged about 100 ChapterHouseINC waymarks while in FL and got one thank you and we chatted back and forth because it wasn't a generic thank you.  I've gotten about 4 of the above so far.  I like getting e-mail but this kind of impersonal thanks doesn't do anything for me other than make me want to set up a filter to auto delete them.

    Re: Automated Thanks!

Hmmmm...  That sound exactly like something that I would write however it would not be automated.  The same message (with a change in the title) would be repeated if the Waymarker had visited several of my waymarks in the same area.  What would you have wanted instead??

    Re: Automated Thanks!

Maybe it just looks automated because it seems to be sent almost instantly after I post a visit.

I would suggest maybe an end of the day/end of the week thank you so as not to barrage people with multiple e-mails.  Between work, geocaching, waymarking, friends, etc I get way more e-mails in a day than I want to deal with so for me, less is more.  The less e-mails I get, the happier I am!

    Re: Thanks!

Perhaps you could just set aside a time at the end of the day or the end of week to check your e-mails when you would not feel so overwhelmed and simply ignore the e-mails the rest of the time irregardless of when the e-mails are sent.    Also you might mention in your logs that you want a delayed "Thanks" suggesting the day and time or state that you want no "Thanks" at all.  I do not know about anybody else but it never occurred to me that thanking a Waymarker or Geocacher would be a problem!!  Has it been a problem for anyone else??

    Re: Thanks!

I have always been very happy for your notes when I visit your waymarks. They have never been generic and I never have felt like you were sending me an automated message.

You always have put in a personal touch and it has been appreciated. Especially when you say "Cute kids" or the like.

What I think ODragon is referring to is that someone has created some sort of program to respond to visits automatically.

So I have visited many waymarks in Seattle as the result of my trip there last month. I am still visiting when I have the time but if I got the same note immediately every time I logged a particular waymarkers waymark I can see getting tired of it. If it truly is an auto respond it seems impersonal to me. No real effort to send a note and I would get one even if my log was a fake one.

How often do people acknowledge waymark visit logs?

Seems I've got enough to do to post my own waymarks, review the ones in the categories where I'm an officer, and keep up with the forums.

I've only occasionally sent a note to someone logging a visit - usually for multiple visits or if there is another issue, question, or something outstanding.

    Re: Automated Thanks!

..I sent ODragon a personalized reply for a visit last week (hope you didn't pass it by among all the spam) ...I was just happy that someone pulled off to the side of DE 41, risking danger & strange looks to get another photograph of a "Welcome to PA" sign (which cost me valuable street cred w/ the Wife while I pulled over to originally waymark it on the way to the shore)  ;)

Me too. Or when I'm encouraging the Visitor to say something MORE.

I do whenever someone leaves interesting details in their log or one of you from the other side of the country shows up at one of my waymarks in the middle of nowhere!

And I appreciated it although, I live in PA so it wasn't as funny as it would have been had I lived in DE.  I don't fear the border...  We went from PA to MD to PA to DE to PA again on that trip.
