    Closed categories

    A couple of groups I'm very interested in are marked as "Closed" and not accepting new members. The officer tags show that last visits to the site were months ago, perhaps evidencing a lost interest in maintaining the group.

    Is there a process to resurrect such groups when there are interested parties?

    In one case, I became a member of the group when I first 'found' Waymarking but due to life constraints, had no time to actually participate. A couple of months later, the Group Leader sent me an e-mail removing me from the group for non-participation. Now it's him that's the non-participant it would seem.... <SIGH> I didn't understand that there was some type of unwritten minimum involvement but I do understand abandonment.

    Thanks for any insights/guidance.

    Re: Closed categories

    You are correct that often the only way to join such groups is to email the Leader and ask to be invited.

    A day will come when a category will die, and likely be archived in the same way that the category "EarthCaches" was archived. I would rather see an opportunity to 're-open' enrollment and allow under serviced groups be replaced, in the same way that "Law and Order" seems to keep going and going, while replacing the entire cast several times.

    Until then, all you can do is beg the Leader (or some officers can do it too) to invite you to join.

    Cool BQ

    They'd better not be.

    The EarthCaches category was special, and I don't want to discuss that here.

    If there's a category that's about to be archived from neglect, someone email me and I'll start watching it. Good grief.

    Re: Closed categories

    I guess I'm opposed to archiving categories on principle, but there are a few duds out there that haven't seen a blip for a long time.  Still, there ought to be someway to intervene.   There is a trouble-shooting group that's been formed, and the issue has been discussed extensively, but there has been no public response from Groundspeak.  In the meantime, we limp along . . .

    Re: Closed categories

    huh? i missed it disappearing? mightve been one of the many grid readjustments i had to do on my list....so what happenen, it just disappear from the bingo grid? can you still see them in people's profiles (posts/visits)? did their stats change? i thought i MOVED from gc.com and they werent accepting any more.

    my interpretation for closed was/is: (first of all your leadership drops below 3 and youre on probation)....after a time frame if your actions werent sufficient it becomes 'closed': locked no new posts. existing marks can still be visited.
    {ie: go to the ground speak store. look at the 09 lackey coin. try to log the number shown}
    then, the group could work itself back into shape--meeting current guidelines.
