I have deleted all visits he has posted to my waymarks. With a log like "Gateway Arch is in St. Louis" I figure that was really insightful.

Re: Armchair Waymarker - KWatson0013
I truly do not understand why anyone would want to rack up visits just to rack up visits. It is not like there is a prize to do so. I explained Waymarking the first few times but now I just delete the visits.

I got a log just like that from kingbee on my Rio Puerco Bridge near Albuquerque. He is a premium member that, I guess, started geocaching back in 2004. His log was "Old Bridge".

Obviously kingbee did not read the Visit Instructions: Tell of your visit and post unique photo(s). Well, "Old Bridge" beats "Visited."

Yeah, back when he did that, I sent a "Thank you for visiting my waymark. I look forward to seeing the photo(s) when you get a chance to upload them." But that apparently didn't work....

Re: Armchair Waymarker - KWatson0013
KWatson0013 has one less visit now . I deleted his visit to Westminster Burial Grounds in Baltimore. I'm usually really easygoing about visits, but his cross the line. He also managed to visit Edgar Allen Poe's grave while there. He has been really busy.

I sent him an e-mail asking him to review the visit instructions and to make an effort comply. I got no reply and he continued to log visits with no photos. So far I have deleted over 50 of his visits.

I agree with kingbee here. It's an old bridge. I wasn't struck by lighting or inspiration while here, I just stopped to get the waymark in the category.
That's how I feel with some. The owners want a nice description of my visit, describe the area and what you experienced. What moved you about the waymark. Well, lets see. It was 34 and raining. What moved me was someone created a category and posted waymarks that got uploaded to my GPS so I visited it. Since that might offend the person who owns the category (and most likely loves old bridges) the log simply states "I was there".
Now, on the alleged armchair waymarker, if asked for a better log or pictures they should try to provide them or give a reason they can't comply. If it's reasonable the owner should allow the visit, but it shouldn't be the norm. And 300+ visits in 11 days is a bit much. Now if I were to count all places I've been in my 48 years before I started waymarking I imagine I could pass 300, maybe even create that many, but I don't have photos. (I have posted visits to a few I had visited shortly before I started waymarking but had the requirements.)

Re: Armchair Waymarker - KWatson0013
Let's not confuse Retro-Visit with Armchair Visit.
Retro-Visit is when you share your experience from the past on a Waymark, and that gives a view from a time before the Waymark existed. Like "Visited Walt Disney World in 1977... we drove two days to get there and I remember buying extra E-Tickets to ride Haunted Mansion again cause I loved it so much", then backdating your log to the actual time you were there and uploading an old photo taken by your parents with their Polaroid One-Step.
Armchair Visit is akin to faking it. Never actually being there but logging it anyway. Like looking at the Waymark for POPS on Route 66 and saying "Cool bottle"
There are thousands of Waymarks on this site that I have been to from before Waymarking started, and I could retro-log them if I wanted to. But to do that, one must log it from a "past-experience style".
I'm willing to accept most anything in a log, except an outright lie. A Retro-Visit should sound like a Retro-Visit.

Re: Armchair Waymarker - KWatson0013
Has anyone encouraged him and others like him to use 'Write Note'? I have done that a couple times when I didn't meet the requirements but still wanted to log something. I did that with the Louisiana State Capital - I did see it, but from the highway, so, it's not a real visit. I've had one of those 'Retro Visits' too, and decided to leave it because, frankly, it's at least a comment that would otherwise leave the waymark visit log empty (HINT - Come to Boston for some Waymarking Visits!).
Maybe we need a new selection called 'Virtual Visit'? I would hate to have the visit list clogged up with virtual visits vs actual visits, but maybe there's room for virtual visitors if there is interest out there.

Why not just play by the rules and do what you are asked to do? My comments will not win any literary prizes, but at least I provide a picture when asked.

I think I'm in the same boat with you.
I like the term "retro-visit". Yeah, I've done that a time or two.

While I agree with you 95% of the time, however sometimes pictures are hard to get. I recently visited a spring that was only accessible by swimming or boating. I don't have a water proof camera and didn't feel comfortable bringing my GPSr. I'm hoping my track log and pictures around the entrance will be enough for the owner to not delete my visit. However, if he is to require a picture AT the spring, my log will have to be deleted as I don't have one.

And if 95% of the time a photo is uploaded, no one would doubt the visit. When 0% of the time a photo is uploaded and no experience of the waymark is shared except some generic entry then the visits are in doubt.

Most if not all of my entries are generic but I do post photos for most of them!

Then I would suggest that you curtail the use of generic entries in favour of unique ones. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but really there is more to it than that.

I'd not be offended by you telling me what I don't know, like the temp at the time, or the time of day you went by or that you only stopped because it happened to be waymarked already. Telling me that my old orphaned bridge is an old bridge is not really sufficient. And no photo either. Gotta keep an eye on these old things. Monitor their condition. Someday we might have a nice progressive record of the decay of the bridge....

Re: Armchair Waymarker - KWatson0013
i got a lot of hits his first day. i sent him a note about pics. if i recall correctly he hit me in 3 states that day.
by the time others had started deleting logs and i opened the note stating so, his emails were gone out of my mailbox....a short time later i got a few more logs from him....those logs were promptly deleted. no note to him was needed--i sent one, and it seems a lot of us did.
bruce and i have discussed the BUG in wm.com that doesnt allow me to 'click around' and delete the logs. such a shame, i really wanted to delete those logs (very similar to how i want to delete those from a poster in another thread now, but am giving him benefit of the doubt, and also think he might rethink his proceedures in the future). but they are lost in the abyss. i just hope i remember to delete them once i can finally find them.
one would think that one day (SOON) the officers are going to band together and remove the ever increasing number of bogus logs.
i have been known to 'retro log' (thats a good one to complemint my 'armchair logger'). i do make it obvious that i WAS there, and heres a PIC to go with it. i have also logged a few marks with out pics, but there are several reasons this is ok, and i would hope that when the log police begin patrolling they understand.
back on topic: so why can TPTB not lock his account? how far must one go to become out of line? what, 300+ and counting, and are there any valid logs? [note: i did have one: a GHM had a BAD phone pic that really coulda been any GHM].

I do not see the point of claiming a "Visit" to a Waymark when you have not really visted a Waymark. It is not like it adds to the "Finds" in Geocaching.

Looks like only 2 "Visits" have been deleted, since the above posting, with 435? to go. BTW:-- The statistics in the post/link do change as "Visits" get deleted.
