What do I do? - 2 identical waymarks listed in the category. OK to delete one?

There are 2 waymarks for the same site listed in one of the categories I lead. Two different posters.  Obviously an oversight by the last approver. So how should I proceed? I expect that it's OK to delete the second waymark. Should I contact the poster first to let him know that his waymark will be deleted and explain why (seems like good manners). This is a first for me and I don't want to step on any toes.

I would contact the poster and explain the problem and ask them to archive it. That will give them more control over it and lessen the chance they will be really ticked off.

Also point them to the older waymark so they can log their visit.

Thanks for the advice. It's very much appreciated. I've emailed the poster. Explained the oversight, asked if they wouldn't mind archiving the waymark and suggested they might like to post a visit on the original waymark.

I think the best policy in cases like this is to contact the officer who mistakenly approved the second waymark, and ask him/her to contact the person who posted the second one, explaining the error and that it is being reconsidered and denied.

Something similar happened - I approved a waymark that had some issues that I didn't catch, and the group leader contacted me so I could deal directly with the waymark, since it was my mistake.

In general, I think it best not to override another officer - in general.  There are times a group leader may need to take more direct "police" action, but this should be the last resort, IMHO.

    Good issue to raise!
