    Upcoming Maintenance tomorrow?

Elias posted the following in the Geocaching.com forums:

On Wednesday August 12th, 2009 at 8:00 PM Pacific Time (GMT -7), we'll be applying some software updates to our core network switches to isolate and solve a stability issue. During this time, all Groundspeak web sites and services will be off line.

While we're not anticipating any issues, this maintenance could take up to 2 hours.

    Thanks,

    signalsmile.gif Elias

    That's 10 PM CDT, 11 PM EDT.

I'm assuming this will affect all the Groundspeak sites, including Waymarking.com.

You won't see anything new on the site with this change, it was a hardware/behind the scenes change, nothing to do with the code on the site.

Yes, hopefully we'll see less...less problems with connectivity.

Not sure how MUCH less...we'll never know that...

I posted one mark and logged two visits each with a photo and had no problems.

yes, at a low volume one might not experience the random glitches. but on a larger scale, its actually fairly frequent. say a 10% occurance (1 out of 10 posts will hit some sort of bug). visiting is a much more streamlined process.....

and im to the point where i fill in requirements with [mostly] crap to save the mark then go back and reedit with correct info.....

yes, i know i have to insert coords, SD, and some variables (oh yea, check those boxes), but why must i do all that before being able to save?

shouldnt i not be able to submit it without them? what if im in the middle of a mark (NRHP) and have to go handle something [we all have other lives dont we?]? i really have no choice but to start over.......why not just be able to hit save, and its in my saves mark section?

    -----
wasnt it in beta that i could enter most info, then choose the country. at that 'refresh' info was saved so if i hit a bug i could back up on the browser and get back to that page....

10%  -  yeah, that's about my experience.  Minor things, usually, but annoying to have to reload a photo, or go back an click through again, or whatever.  Still a lot of conflicts, it seems.

And, I agree with you about saving.  We should be able to save a waymark in progress at any stage - or with nothing more than a title, coords, and "something" in the short description.  I've resorted to those placeholders, and so forth, too, just so I wouldn't lose what I already had while I did more research, checked on something else, or had to do a "real life" task.

yea, well i logged about 20 uhauls the other day Big Smile. had about the same % of upload issues.

its not always the same issue. and it fits no pattern.
