    Waymarking Maps & Coords

I was looking at the waymark (WM74R5) I added yesterday and noticed the map shows the coords in a totally different area, like 10 miles north. My GPSr (Triton 400) reads in this format 27.20942N and 80.32806W and that is how I set up the waymark. When I look at it the map is off, but when I go to edit the map is correct, I save update and the map goes back to the wrong location. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong or should I just not show the map and save my sanity?

    Re: Waymarking Maps & Coords

There are three formats that you can enter coordinates for a waymark,
    1.) Degrees, minutes, seconds (DMS)
2.) Degrees and minutes (MinDec) - the default
    3.) Decimal Degrees (DegDec)

The default format used on waymarks for entering and displaying is format 2.

The reading from your GPSr is in format 3. You can change the pop-up menu to format 3 before entering your coordinates. After you save the waymark, it will be converted and displayed in format 2.

You might look at settings on your GPSr to see if you can change its display to format 2 for convenient usage at waymarking.com. Otherwise, you will need to change the popup menu when entering coordinates.

i think you are still set in some sort of search paramater.

try going back to the the home page first. then navigate to the mark.

there used to be a link below the map to clear the search query off the map.

    along these lines:
-look at a waymark. see the map.
    -click log a visit.
-why does the map reset to the world and not stay zoomed in 'on the waymark'

My gps is set to NAD27 and I've always used this setting. I went to post a benchmark I found and they want the coords. in WGS84?!? I can't figure out how to convert the coords on my GPS and my terrain navigator is no help either. Can I somehow convert them on the submittion page? Swizzle

Please change your gps to WGS84.  Your coordinates can be 100's of meters off.  Everything on Groundspeak is in WGS84.  On your gps there will be a setup screen that this is done from.

Everything in groundspeak is set up this way? Then wouldn't all of my coords for geocaching be off as well? Swizzle

Sorry!! Big Brain Fart. I just checked my set up. My secondary is set up for NAD27 not my primary. I guess I can go ahead and try to submit that benchmark now. Swizzle
