Grid Help - Seeing What Catagories I Am Missing

I have read in other forums about selecting the grid and copying it to excel. I have tried that without any luck. Is there a way to translate the xy coord's (eg. D4 is Dog Statues) on the grid into catagory names?  The name comes up when you scroll over it, but I would like to see a complete view, so I know what catagories I need concentrate on.

    Any help would be great.

Re: Grid Help - Seeing What Catagories I Am Missing

At the top of the grid page there is a drop-down menu for "grid type" and one of the options is to "View All Category Icons."  This is fun to do, and you'll see the grid completely filled in.  But, I'm not sure this would help you.

I wish there were a way to mach the grid coordinates with a category, too.  My grid is getting a little cluttered, and when I post a waymark in a new category, I often have a hard time finding the new icon on the grid.

The Waymark Lists option is nice -  seeing a list of all categories one has listed a waymark in  (or visited) but it would be nice to get a similar list of categories one has NOT posted to.

Right now I'm trying to go back through the grid to find categories that I have a waymark for but haven't submitted, or ones that I could get with reasonable effort, and all I can to is do the hover over on the blanks - rather tedious, but interesting.

When you do the copy and paste into Excel, don't do a regular paste.  Select paste special and then select text.  This will do what you want.

This is probibly the long way, but do view source. Search on blankblue.gif. Before each occurance there is an alt tag that describes whats there.

Yep that is the long way.  That is the text which will be pasted if paste special text is selected Smile

I hadn't done this before, but I just tried it.

    I opened Excel 2007.
I went back to my browser and highlighted the entire grid, including the Grid Count line.
Then, in Excel, I clicked on the A1 cell, and right clicked to get the context menu. When I selected Paste Special, all it gave me an option for was Graphic.

So back to the grid.  This time I didn't highlight Grid Count Line, and when I right clicked on the A1 cell in the empty spreadsheet, I had three options.  HTML, Unicode, and Text.  I selected Text and it all pasted in nicely.

It works fine in Excel 2003.

I get the same thing as muffy53. Just 2 columns of numbers, no data.

It might depend on which web browser you are using.  I tried it once, and got better results going from Explorer to Excel 2007 than from Firefox to Excel.

Re: Grid Help - Seeing What Catagories I Am Missing

I've built a spreadsheet that I use to track the number of waymarks that I have in each grid cell.  I try and keep it up to date with the new categories.  I am more than willing to send it out.

It was once posted on the waywardwaymarking website...which may arise again.

Email me and I will send it off to you with a few instructions on how I use it.
