    Help with translation please?

This is what I've gotten so far. I don't know if I screwed up a word or 3 or if this is the rough translation. Thanx, Swizzle

    Re: Help with translation please?

Google translate came up with this:

THE ETERNAL MEMORY Veterans WORLD WAR IN TA-36-year anniversary TCWARZYSTWA SWMICHALA W-10-th Anniversary FREE J. POLISH SOCIETY WAS THE POMNIKSTAWIA The Chaplain KS A mountain GO-GO ON MAY 1928

In other words I got the same thing you did.

    Big Smile

    Re: Help with translation please?

I think I'm going to have to get a better look at the stone and write the words down letter for letter just to make sure I have it spelled right. The spacing doesn't seem quite right on some of the letters. Swizzle

    Re: Help with translation please?

In eternal memory of World War Veterans
on 36th anniversary of founding St. Michael Brotherhood
on 10th anniversary of free Poland
The Brotherhood erects this memorial with the former chaplain A. Gorski
    on 30th May, 1928

I googled for "Towarzystwo Świętego Michała" and didn't find any information about that brotherhood, just references to some books published by it in 1930s.

    Wonderfully done.

Interesting that this is in New York state. Anyway I think that is where it is.

    Re: Help with translation please?

Very nicely done indeed. Now I can write it up and get it submitted. Thank you very much and yes it is in New York State. Amsterdam, NY to be exact. This one is cool because there is a small cannon on this monument too. Thanx again. Swizzle

    Re: Help with translation please?

WooHoo, Its a done deal. Check it out. Not by best work by any means. I'll eventually find out more about it and add to the content a little bit. Swizzle

    Re: Help with translation please?

You're welcome. Let me know if you find any other interesting memorial in a Slavic language :)
I've checked WM787Z, nice one. Perhaps "St. Michael's Society" would be better than "Brotherhood", if such an organization exists - "Towarzystwo" can be anything like Association, Company, Brotherhood.

Polish WWI Memorial - Amsterdam - New York - U.S.A.

Very interesting memorial. Another wonderful piece of history brought to life by waymarking.

    Thanks for sharing it.

    Re: Help with translation please?

I just might need another translation but I don't know just yet. There is a women buried here who is 100 years old and I'll be adding her as soon as I can locate her. There are quite a few stones in here that has spanish and I'm sure some more slavic as well. I actually feel like this one is lacking just a little in content and I'd like to add more to it. Right now its approved and its active so I'm leaving it. Once I hit 5,000 I'll be going back through every waymark and asking myself how I can improve each one and do my best to do so. This one I think deserves a little more attention then most. I think its also pretty cool how different this memorial is from all of the american memorials I've seen and waymarked. I have at least 4 other war memorials to waymark yet. So I better get cracking. I thought this would get declined until I removed the "thanx for the tranlation" part and gave you credit for it. I'm really glad they let me keep it on there. Swizzle

    Re: Help with translation please?

Thanx for posting the direct link and thanx for the kind words. I really appreciate it. Times like this is what makes waymarking worth the little extra effort. Swizzle

    Re: Help with translation please?

Can I get some help with the translataion on the Czech Waymark? The wording is awkward, and I'm not 100% sure what they are trying to say. http://www.waymarking.com/cat/approve.aspx?f=1&guid=e34146da-387f-4bdf-9b46-fc4b6bbf2607

It says "You do not have the authority to view this page." And it is English not Czech, as far as I can tell. Smile

You maybe better tell us the WM code.

For others to view you have to give the link to the waymark, not the approval page for the waymark.

    Re: Help with translation please?

Got the listing through an edit page and modifying guid parameter :) Yes it is a legitimate former school WM listing, although the english text looks like a product of Google translate.

The building no. 135/I is first mentioned in 1570 as an Utraquist (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utraquism ) school and several important renaissance personages were teaching there. Later in 1622-1784 it was used as Catholic Trivial School. In 1784 the house was damaged by a large fire in Rokycany town and "Dumetovsky dum" house nearby, which survived the fire,  was used as as a school in 1784-1787. In 1788, a new school was built (currently used as a museum). However, this old school was still in use until 19th century. In 1820s the schoolhouse was rebuilt in Classicism style and later it was used as a church archive, an arts and music classes school, and currently a museum archive is located there.

The mentioned source website rokycanyhomepage.ic.cz doesn't exist but the same information is at http://www.hrady.cz/?OID=10586.

    Re: Help with translation please?

Thank-You. I was pretty sure it was valid, I was just having trouble figuring out the correct intent of the awkward translation.
