New and Improved One-Room Schoolhouses Category

I've recently taken over the One-Room Schoolhouses proposed category and made some chages to it.

I've read the past comments from previous forum conversations and used those suggestions to design a decent category. I would appreciate some positive feedback.

Nicely written!  And, if we take the view that each category should stand independently on its own merits, then this makes an interesting and worthy category.

I do think, however, that this is a subset of the already existing "Former Schools" category, except in the possible rare instance of a one-room school that is still in use.  You might also address old churches that were used as schools - usually one room.

But, for better or worse, this seems to be the new trend in category creation - the slice and dice approach.  And, I'm starting to feel that this is not always a bad approach.  I think these unique places have enough identity as a group that they deserve to be highlighted in their own category.

    As long as we're clear about what we're doing . . .

    This is confusing:

"You MUST include at least two photos of the schoolhouse you are submitting. You must submit, at a minimum, a photo of the one-room schoolhouse itself and if there is a sign, historic plaque, or vintage playground equipment, upload a photo of these as well. "

Is it minimum one photo and a photo of a plaque if there is one, or is it two photos minimum.?

Oops!  Good catch on my bad grammer. I'll fix it!  Thanks!

OK, the One-Room Schoolhouses category is up for Peer Review. As they say in my home state of Louisiana: Vote Early and Vote Often! ;)

I was thinking about the operating one-room schools, and I realized that there may be many more functioning one-room schoolhouses outside of the U.S.  I suppose we will see if this category gets approved.

Well, this is true in some parts of the world.

I spent four years in Haiti, and one-room schools were the norm.  In less-developed countries and the rural areas, I think one would find the same thing.  None that I know of here in Korea, though.  And, there is still the occasional operating one-room school in the U.S.

Anyway, this is a positive category.  Though most are still included in former schools, it is enough of a special interest focus to justify a separate category.  And, well put together.

I voted yea with this comment:

Maybe a variable for whether it is an original or a re-creation.  Are the year variables optional for re-creations?
