    Indoor Waymarks

Do you have any suggestions for giving coordinates indoors?

Previously, I have waymarked inside airports that I knew well enough to guestimate where in the airport I was, and give good directions to someone hunting without a GPSer.

I was at Amsterdam airport for about six hours, and spend about one hour walking from one terminal to the other. I photographed a Starbucks and a McDonalds, and I think I could guess at a coordinate based on proximity to another waymark existing that I walked past. Does anyone have another suggestion for a better way?

I have been able to get coordinates by going to a near by window.

I would also note what gate the waymark is near. That would help also.

    Re: Indoor Waymarks

The first time I tried this I was so far off that I decided it was just a bad idea to waymark all those airport franchises if it is just a layover.  It is like trying to waymark something in a shopping mall.  Accurate coordinates WITHIN the building are not of any use to anyone anyway.  The only thing that is meaningful would be coordinates for the nearest terminal entrance, supplemented with walking directions to the correct concourse or whatever.  Since I can't get that inside of security, then I just don't see the point of doing the waymark.   I suppose one could use mapping software to get the airport entrance, but that is generally frowned upon.  Smaller airports may offer other opportunities.

For locations that I cannot get a GPS reading due to being inside a structure, I use the closest access point then augment with descriptive text.
