Archiving a Waymark and 'My Stats'

ok. on a recent trip to an amusement park i come to find that the penny smasher had a major overhaul--they were all replaced with the plexiglass style and feature 4 designs instead of 3.

i archived a couple that were replaced (mentioning/linking to it on the new smasher).

now, when i click on 'my page', then 'waymark list' and click the # next to penny smashers (181) i only get 176 results.

yes, i have archived that many. when i go to 'my waymarks' (on the right) and sort only penny smashers i get 189 (the 181 plus the ones i just posted).

my point: shouldnt my archived waymarks still appear in 'public searches' that encompass all variables:

it is archived, thus not in the 'active category' listing. but if you were surfing my profile (or the yet to be created 'archived marks archive') you could then see it.

Re: Archiving a Waymark and 'My Stats'

Archived means you are taking the waymarks out of public view.  As the waymark owner you can still view them.  When you click the link on your page for 181 the default view is approved only.  To see the archived click the + next to Search Criteria and put a check mark in the Archived box and click update.

Archiving an approved waymark does not effect your stats.  The 181 smashes stays at 181 and your total waymarks stays at its number when you archive a waymark.

Re: Archiving a Waymark and 'My Stats'

but if someone else, beside me, that has no idea i archived marks might have issues.

ok, on GC i click the number next to your hides. whatever the number is is what is displayed. the archived ones have the red line.

why is waymarking different? you click 181. you should see 181. you just might be looking for marks to visit, but more likely you are just surfing around and should get the full information.

ok, i can click to show archived one, but since i clicked '181', shouldnt that be part of the default search to have 'show archived' checked.

In my opinion archived caches should not be seen either. They were archived for a reason and should not be able to be logged in any way without the owner agreeing to it.

The same is true here in Waymarking. I don't think people should be able to log visits or notes unless the owner checks off that it is okay on a case by case basis.

"chapterhouseinc wants to log a visit on your archived listing {listing}. Will you allow this Y/N? - Proposed log is {copy of log entry."

Hmmm... maybe I'll suggest that on geocaching.com too.

    Cool BQ

Re: Archiving a Waymark and 'My Stats'

i agree with the logging them aspect, but when you click '181' on my profile, you should see 181, not 176 results.

maybe archived mrks should have a 'lock' feature (like locationless caches are now?). and if you have a retro log to post, i can give you a secret unlock code so that you could post your visit.

but, logging isnt in my complaint. i just want them to be easily perused by armchair surfers. but, i will take a visit any way i can; as long as they can fulfil the requirements. i might let your 'no pic log' go on an active mark, but log an archived one with no proff, instant delete.

Re: Archiving a Waymark and 'My Stats'

    what about this scenario:

on the home page, where it says: "Presently there are 229933 waymarks worldwide, listed in 957 user-created categories."

IF you could click on 229933, what would the results be?

if you click 'newest' just below that you get ~4500 marks.

so then, of the 229,933 total waymarks, how many have been archived?

As of a minute ago there were 229847 active visible waymarks.   Click find  a waymark link on home page and then click update without entering any criteria.

Re: Archiving a Waymark and 'My Stats'

i believe that all of the options 'on the right' are gone....

the mark i looked at was not mine. and did not have a gallery....

i posted because i thought that the 'right side options' were appearing on my archived waymarks. but, its been a while since i looked at one....

and how does this factor into the possibility of retro logging [as BQ calls them] legacy marks.....

would i have to 'unarchive it' while someone logs, and then 'rearchive it'?

Can I agree that an archived waymark should no longer be logged but that there should be another status type that allows for logging of things that once existed?

    Cool BQ

I agree and I believe that waymarks that are in that status should still be available in searches (with a selector whether to include them or not) and that waymarks in that status should be clearly marked as "legacy" or so some other term.

Re: Archiving a Waymark and 'My Stats'

right, so for the moment, lets just put them in the 'archived marks' side--a tab on applicable pages....

'luke, come to the dark side'......
