    Roundabouts

Is there a category for roundabouts?

These just seem too common to waymark.

I was thinking the same.  Maybe in some areas they are rarer but they are becoming quite common in my area.

Never heard of them until I moved to New England (well, except for Korea) and they are remarkably unremarkable, with few exceptions, and are usually reffered to as "rotaries."  Maybe restrict the category to ones with monuments, fountains or other unique features.

Down here they're called "traffic circles" and there's only two that I can think of in Fort Worth.

How about calling the category Roundabout Art? We are getting quite a few roundabouts here and many of them have some nice art pieces in the center.

    Re: Roundabouts

We have several round-abouts here in my area. In fact I pass through one almost every day and none  that I have seen are interesting in any degree. I would say no unless there were specific guidlines that culled out the very mundane types that I have seen.

There are a lot in neighborhoods of Seattle that are landscaped, but common.  But you're right, some of the newer ones do have large sculptures in the center.  The first abstract sculpture (here) that I waymarked is a kinetic piece in a traffic circle.  It's called Hi-5 and it "waves" to the folks passing by below on I-5.

The thing is that most of the  art or statues in these traffic circle's would be waymarkable in other categories.

Yeah, I guess you're right, these aren't all that great. When your small town gets one, its pretty big news, but I can see where it would get old very fast. Thanks for the opinions, everyone!

    Re: Roundabouts

No prob, Geoduck.  They are new in our area and I like how they are lanscaping them and adding sculpture.  I just drove down a street in the Greenlake neighborhood in Seattle and there was one on every single block.  I was dizzy by the time we got to the street we were looking for.
