    Police memorials

    Hello,

Below is the description of a police memorial category.  Please let me know your input about it so it can be written better and so it can include variations that I may have missed.  Your ideas are greatly appreciated.

I am also seeking officers of the police memorial group at: http://www.waymarking.com/groups/details.aspx?f=1&guid=ecbf0ea7-a901-439d-bd6d-a4aa68a333d4&gid=6

    Description:

This category is in commemoration to all law enforcement personnel who have lost their lives in the line of duty.  This category is for marking all police, law enforcement, peace officer, and corrections officer memorials worldwide.

Law enforcement work can be one of most dangerous in the world.  They risk their lives and health every day for the safety and protection of citizens.  They help people through hard times and take ridicule from the disrespectful.  It takes a very special person to be in law enforcement.

Here are links to just a few of the many memorials in the world:

    Sergeant

    Instructions for posting:

Marks accepted for this category are all memorials dedicated to a fallen law/peace enforcement officers.  The memorial must be stationary and permanent. Stationary means the memorial does not move to different locations.  A memorial with moving parts is accepted.

It can include plaques mounted to vertical and horizontal structures.  It can also include a memorial dedicated to multiple categories of employment as long as a law enforcement officer is listed as part of the memorial and was serving in the line of duty during the incident.

Memorial roadways, bridges, and other infrastructure are also accepted.  Since memorial roadways can be very long, multiple marks are permitted for the same roadway as long as the coordinates and default pictures are taken at or near the memorial sign/monument.

Write details about the purpose of this memorial in your description.

Include any links to websites that have information about the memorial.

    Naming requirements:

    - Use the name of the memorial as the name of the waymark.  Keep it as close to the original name as possible.

    Photographing requirements:

    - At least one non-copyrighted photo (a picture taken by yourself) of the memorial is required for the default image.  Post pictures of the surrounding area if they include any other plaques or monuments pertaining to this one.  Other photos of the surrounding area are encouraged.

    - Include clear photographs of any plaques pertaining to this memorial so that others can read what it says.

    - Clear, good resolution photographs are required.

    Visiting:

Post a picture of your visit to the memorial.  You may also post a picture of you or your GPS with the memorial in the background.

    Re: Police memorials

That is a great idea and will read it over more thoroughly.

I also think we should include a Firefighters Memorial group and have done so here:
    FIRE FIGHTERS MEMORIALS
I will see what the community says on this one and edit accordingly. I think they should also be separate categories.

    Re: Police memorials

Hmmm  Police Memorials vs Fire Fighter Memrorials... do I hear a "BATTLE OF THE BADGES" contest?

Battle of the Badges - Hockey for charity

Didn't want anyone to think I was trying to pass of the idea as my own. But in Waymarking circles, it could be fun also.

I'll bet a cup of Timmies on Police against a Starshmucks for Fire... interested Lep? Or anyone else. I'll take on anyone willing to come here to collect!

    Cool BQ

p.s. Good luck with the Categories

I'll bet on Fire BQ, but I want Tim's as well... none of that fancy Starbux for me. In fact, I'll even spot you one waymark since I have pics of a Police Memorial already taken.

    Hmm I better get busy.
I only have one and it is a Police Memorial.

    Re: Police memorials

I've already got a waymark all photographed and coordinated for entry to this category.  Taking pictures of the memorial was my only solace after DNF'ing a microcache at the location.  Then I got home to discover there was no category to put it in.  I was despondent.  Thanks for rescuing me from the depths of waymarking depression.

Hmmmm, come to think of it, the closest unfound cache to my office is at a law enforcement memorial.  I'm definitely sensing a waymarking/caching twofer on the next sunny day...

    Hello,

I looking for at least one more officer for this group: http://www.waymarking.com/groups/details.aspx?f=1&guid=ecbf0ea7-a901-439d-bd6d-a4aa68a333d4&gid=6

    Anyone want to help out?

I understand if you don't want to help if you recently received a speeding ticket like myself, but you know they are just doing thier job, right?

    Thank you.

The Firefighters are right behind you.
Could you say we work well together.

I finally found a Firefighter Memorial to go with that Police Memorial.
So I guess I will be 1 for 1 in each already if approved.

Does this mean the race is on?  Which category will reach the most marks by 1 January 2008?

Does it count if both of us are officers in both categories, or are we comepeting against ourselves?

    If you want.

    A Waymark Duel you say.
We will meet on the Square at 12:00 noon on Jan 1,2008.

I am not really ..yeah right...competitive.

But it sure will make for some waymarking fun.

    Hey AW,
I would love to help as an officer in this group. Even if I only made SGT in the Air Force LOL.

Now that both categories are live, the race is on....

Thanks to everyone who voted and the suggestions that were made.  I don't know why, but the last two times I submitted a category for peer review, the HTML gets messed up.  Am I missing something?

I would like to point out that I was crafting a wonderful page for the first Police Memorial, and mere seconds before I could submit it for review I received an email... seems RAYMAN beat me to the punch.

Well done my fellow WARMARKER.  You bested me this time, but I fear this is yet another single battle in our little fight.

Kidding of course, luv ya Rayman!  Everybody loves Rayman right?

    Cool BQ

I believe that would be the second time I've barely beaten you to posting first in a new category. Stick out tongue The other being Dairy Queen. I'll concede that your write-up is better than mine, but my memorial includes a water feature, which to me adds bonus points.

And BTW, you'd be surprised how much I hear people say "Everybody loves Rayman" to me. I'm sure there's gotta be someone that doesn't, but I sure hope not.
