    Speed traps

    http://www.speedtrap.org/speedtraps/stetlist.asp

Not a real super user here but this issue came up the other day, I am sure that you know where the favorite ones are at and you know someone who going above the posted limit.

Do we have a waymark for speed traps (something similar to the above link).  It could be handy while out driving around to have a simple warning before it's too late.

If this is already out there please send me a link.

Cool idea. This also reminds me of those stoplight cameras that take your picture when you run a red light. That could be another idea for a category.

    Re: Speed traps

I also like this idea and have a terrific waymark for a speed trap near my house -- a divided four lane highway with a speed limit of 45 mph.  Traffic tickets are the largest source of revenue for that township; there are no businesses.  As we drove past the speed trap yesterday, watching a cruiser lying in wait for its next unsuspecting victim, I mentioned this thread to my daughter.  The inventor of the "wow test" for virtual caches thought this was a cool idea.

Also, this category could provide my first good excuse to make use of the "proximity alarm" on my GPS.  Imagine a world where every common speed trap has been waymarked.  Download all those waymarks that are along a route, using the "Waymarks along a route" feature (remember, we're pretending...).  Then set a proximity alarm to beep when you get within one mile of the waymark coordinates, giving you a warning to slow down.

    Wow, Lep.  You've imagined utopia!

    Re: Speed traps

No, actually, Utopia would be a place where you are answerable only to God for your chosen traveling speed.  As measured by your GPS, of course.  There would be no police, and those who would otherwise be employed by the government in law enforcement jobs would instead be responsible for delivering free coffee and donuts to drivers when they stop at major intersections.

Even without my imagined future, it's still a cool category idea.  I'm not sure I love it enough to organize the group and the cat, but I'd help as a secondary officer.  There are some opportunities for using variables, like "posted speed limit" and the type of road (interstate, other divided highway, urban surface street, etc.).

    Re: Speed traps

While Lep's idea works quite well, there would be gaps for quite a long time.  Also, speed traps move or are rotated.

A better idea.... drive the speed limit.

Sorry about the poor spelling in my OP.  I'm glad there is some interest, I will start working on getting things rolling tomorrow, I'd be more than happy to get this started.
