yes, but the aspect of the public pool that i am aiming for:
a categoryless mark. the aids memorial. now if you all will post the ones you find....
and how long will it take to get enugh to make a category? if it isnt in the public pool, then noone will know it exists....
we all bemoaned this UCM idea. then i (at least) came around and see the ...

so, are you saying one should 'resteal' a 'stolen' mark? but then wouldnt it have to go before officer review again? and, thus, create 'more work'?

yes, it is currently 'my' UCM.
but if someone 'beats me to it' AFTER the 'aids memorial' category is formed, it will then become their mark.
much like my 'relief art' posting of the 1935 Keys Hurricane Memorial became SfWife's waymark--after she added her 'requested' 'closeup' pic, and added it (back to) the category.....

well, that happened during the no notification spell after the update....
since it was/is no longer 'my mark', i wondered how it turned out.....i have yet to recieve any sort of notification about that waymark.
does it now become 'mine' again?
and i discussed the topic (aids memorial as a disaster) and not one of them thought that was a good fit

BruceS:The original thread that introduced uncategorized waymarks then known as orphans is here.  The key line on ''credit'' is ''If the group accepts the waymark, it gains full waymark status and now
shows up in regular searches on the site. You get full credit for
entering the waymark just as if you had known the category from ...

saopaulo1:This is why I don't like using the uncategorized category feature. I think since the beginning Groundspeak said that credit for posting would go to the helper. I just find it weird to categorize a waymark and get all the credit when I've never been there. I seems like armchair waymarking.
but doesnt this system seem to further alienate ...

in relation to 'american'
shouldnt the results be the categories with that word first?
then second?
and so on....
i usually try to use the first word of the category (american, georgia, FL)
what about 'war' or 'memorial'...both of these return A LOT of results, and it seems to not have any order at all....
i could go for a WOW for ...

BruceS:How this should have been set up is that categorizer recommends a category, which then opens up variables and he completes those he can, then  it should go back to the original submitter to complete and submit.  It would work much like the edits work except it would be between the original submitter and categorizer.
i thought ...

how about this one:
look for 'American Guide Series'
enter 'American' as the search word....
AGS is like the 4th entry--there are categories about it that do not even have american as the first word in the title.
and yes, i have several other search terms, for real common categories, that return everything but what i want.
but, there is a ...

i got a dclined notice, for which, it would have been an opportunity to 'answer the question' in the 'private message box' on the waymark.....
but when i go back to add it and resubmit, the box is gone....

i commented to several people that there should be an 'instructions for officers' section--as many categories have 'regular approvers' and when someone else stepps in to 'pick up slack' there are things that could be pointed out....

TheBeanTeam:Coming in and yelling at everyone for one individuals actions will not help your cause or garner sympathy.
i would like to mention that there were 4 officers that all supported the decision.
there was no resubmition of any of the above waymarks mentioned. they just came to the forums and ranted and raved....

yes, the first pic uploaded is the default (unless you change that in several ways).
so then, the default pic is always one of the 5 (a good thing),
and the other 4 are the last pics uploaded (be they from the poster or visits)......
kinda reminds me of the bug that time where someone would upload a pic to their log, then that pic became the ...

in post 23536 and seconded in 23658
- I asked for 'uncategorized waymark' variables so that others might know why it is where it is --perhaps a dropdown and a text box for explanation.

-has this issue, of the edits 'looking' like original text been investigated?

huh, what?
i did not send a message to any officers about the mark....
might that be a product of 'edit proposals'....that clicking 'archive' initiates a 'edit request notice'?
so, as a waymark 'owner' we are prohibited from archiving our 'own' marks?
edit: it would be nice for nongroup members to have a link to send a message, much like you say

i suggest that this category REQUIRE that NO PICS in visit logs.....if you must, tell me about it, but dont show it to me....
and it might not be so much what you ar doing in there, as what you might find.....
in reference to benchmarks, i have seen a few of those that were private enough to relieve oneself on.....

yes, and the ability to click on other peoples maps to see their results.....
as i mentioned in the other post, i think that most people are turned off by the vast amount of clicking/scrolling that it takes to navigate the site. granted, it might take the same number of clicks to get to someones map, but it is a little more intuitive.

but the blank page is found across the board: wether the edits have been approved or not.
from the structure of the link, it looks as if you are supposed to go to an 'edit review que', not the mark in question.
but as i mentioned before (was that page 1?), it would be nice to know if it was already approved/denied. and MORE IMPORTANTLY, who ...
