Just about all of the old locationless categories are waymarking categories.
The nice thing about waymarking is that if a 'penny smasher'' has already been waymarked, and you find it you can log it as a vist.
The locationless could only be logged if you were the first to find it.
I can click in my statistics for penny sashers and see every ...

In Detroit most alleys are a route for the trash collector to get the trash from the back of the house in neighborhoods where they don't like trash in front of the house.

dinoprophet:I check email every day. I don't check this site every day, possibly for a week or more.Which brings to mind another idea: extending the voting period. Three days seems like forever when it's your category, but it might not be enough for everyone to realize there's a vote.Another idea: set the days that votes go up. ...

TheBeanTeam:br>And what is MLA format? Globetrotters.us can you give an example of what you are thinking of for a variable. I think it is a good idea but wonder how it might be applied.
My books are packed, so I may be a little off. MLA is the standard that college students are taught to use to cite their sources in college papers. ...

telomere:Ummm...that is english. If you are requesting clarification, please expand your request beyond the realm of 'snarky'.
I understand that it's hard to take words that are precise, and dumb them down.
Please understand that waymarkers are a diverse group, from all education levels and English speaking abilities (for that matter).
As a ...

the blue quasar:New locations open, some close... how accurate is that pre-loaded set these days?
Hours of operation. Drive-Thru yes/no. BQ
I recall being nearly empty in a remote area and I let Tom Tom route me to a closed gas station...

BruceS:You have the functionality. Do a search an you will find that if returns things listed in variables.
I was thinking more like ''YES'' in a variable value
For example Sushi has a conveyors variable.
Query all sushi with conveyor = ''yes''
or if other cats had the conyor variable,
Query all restaurants with conveyor = ...

This would make a good contribution to that cat or the Solar power cat
http://www.nyit.edu/magazine/welcome/spring_2009/campus_buzz/charge__er_up/
NYIT will unveil the first of its solar carports this April as part of its “One Spot, One Car, One Commute” solar plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (S-PHEV) project. The initiative’s overall goal

Originally, the intent of the variables was to provide some value in searching.
Perhaps it's time again to raise our voices to the developers and ask to provide us some additional functionality.
Ideally, we should be able to add a dim-sum check box to any possible place to buy dim-sum, and a new dim-sum query would show all existing waymarks

I would be curius to see some statistics about WHO is voting in the votes.
Is it the core waymarkers all evaluating all categories?
Is there a big percentage of people that have never voted before?
I have a gut feeling that some of the categories proposed are getting voted in by GC.com premium members that are buddies of the category proposer. ...

Actually, Dim sum is a variable in the Chinese cat (I'm pretty sure)

Is there a way to auto-generate a a citation from a variable?
The thought came to me from the 1000 places cat. The waymarker is entering the book and the page number. Whether direct quote or reworded the book and page are still the source of the waymark.
1) Could waymarking.com auto reformat those entries into a proper citation format? ...

BruceS:But as a stand alone category (Inside Airports) it is still a duplicate of an existing category.
I think we all agreed on that. I was adressing the ''root cause'' of the desire to create a new category.

Coming from an IT, and Data Warehosuing background, I highly recommend optional text boxes for anything you might have the remotest interest in analysing by in the future.

silverquill:I don't really see the point in trying to waymark an airport that one visits only on a layover.   Where/how do you get coordinates?   What do you photograph?  Coordinates should be somewhere outside a building, even if you could get a GPS signal or on the tarmac.   If it's a layover, then you're ...

rakeinthecache:Yipee!  Thanks a bunch Bruce.  This confirms my suspicion.
Is there any chance that you could waymark the Academy of Music in Paris? Its very close to the Joan of Arc statue you have. It has statues of famous composers on the fascade. I spotted some of my digital photos from our trip 3 years ago, but not enough to waymark.

OmegaLimit:Michael Shermer of Skeptic Magazine said in an interview that most sightings occur near military bases.  This category would be a good way to test this hypothesis.
Maybe a ''closest Military Base'' variable would make it easier to organize the data.

Alpaca in the ''news'' http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=a4b7f4f7-2b1d-4fe6-9f88-859a2505e6b2 . I took the opportunity to plug waymarking.
A few supportive emails from waymarkers and we may be able to win over a geocacher to waymarking...
