the blue quasar:Never one to decline a category for that reason, I must confess that restaurants do seem to be getting out of control. I do admit that I lead several of these categories:
A&W, Dairy Queen, Hooters, Johnny Rockets, Subway and Tim Horton's.
But even as I look over that list, these are either novelty restaurants or ...

OK, a few thoughts on this one:
1) Like silverquill pointed out, be careful about major alterations.
2) I find the idea of a bicycle tender category very useful. I cannot find these searching google. I cannot find these opening up a yellow book. Although many exist, that doesn't mean every place of business/public area has one. Knowing where ...

the blue quasar: Redneck Parrotheads:By hand-drawn, you mean cisterns?
Sounds like fun! :)
That isn't what ''hand drawn'' means to me. I took it as a bucket or a manually operated pump.
...
These work in wells and cisterns.
BQ
Oh, that would be included, too? OK, then I know of a few to waymark.
What about those that are added for ...

I was thinking about a Carl's Jr category, but was debating on including Hardee's in there. I didn't even know there was such a place as Green Burrito or Red Burrito. Anyways, I like the approach (considered it for my Chili's category, but decided against it for various reasons).
Would this go under national chains>burgers, or just national ...

Nearly 200 countries. But you also have to consider the countries that may have had benchmarks, but are no longer countries. That certainly is a possibility. So, theoretically, you could have more categories than countries. I doubt this is the case now, but very well could be in the future.
I guess you have to ask which would be better. One ...

Colorado, United States
1,539 waymarks to 10,295 geocaches.
0.15 waymarks per geocache.
6.69 geocaches per waymark.
Thankfully we have a lot of waymarkers (mr. volkswagen, condor1, ronjean, Team Min Dawg, and a few others that escape me right now), so I'm sure that waymarking will certainly catch up.

dinoprophet:I've always had the idea that waymarkers are just a subset of geocachers.  But that's probably not true.  Out of curiosity, who here did not migrate to waymarking after first being a geocacher?
I learned of waymarking through the geocaching website. That being said, I started waymarking before I started geocaching, and ...

Redneck Parrotheads:When I stopped showing mine, the SPAM from Groundspeak accounts stopped. I can't tell if I've gotten SPAM based on my email having been visible for a long time and gmail does a great job of protecting me from the SPAM monsters. Speaking of monsters, the worst I've ever been SPAMmed has been from signing up on ...

Although I like the idea, I figure if it can't really can't gain acceptance here (or at least is met with this much hesitation), then it won't pass peer review.
Maybe at a later date this could work, when blue boxes really start to disappear.
Thanks everyone for their comments.

Redneck Parrotheads:the category can be narrowed to only consider Artistic in-service post boxes... like R2D2. I'm sure there's more out there. There's something along this vein that could work if it was written right.
I believe by doing that you'll lose the usefulness of the category. Also, the only really unique ones I have seen are the R2-D2 ...

Alright, I just kind of skimmed through the other replies.
Boring - Sure, it's boring, but there a ton of ''boring'' categories out there. You have a point, BruceS, when you say that just because we have some doesn't mean we need more.
Prevalence - I agree with many of the comments about post office locations having post office boxes. After ...

the blue quasar:Thanks for writing me the personal email, it sure helped me understand that this wasn't just a ''Spam'' or ''Phishing''.
I'm glad that you posted here as well.
As I said in my email reply, I'd be happy to help out now that I know it isn't malicious.

Which was my concern as well. Thanks for sending me the personal e-mail ...

I guess I can see that. I'll have to do a little digging on numbers and history to see if I could overcome that.
I figure it's useful, and, just like payphones, they're disappearing thanks to e-mail.

January 2, 2008.
Dear geocacher/waymarker,
My name is Nana Kirk (a.k.a. “Squirreleen” on Groundspeak). I am a landscape architect/planner who is interested in the interaction between people and the environment. Currently, I am conducting a survey on the use of GPS devices in recreation. In particular, I am interested in how the use of the ...

I think I read someone mention something about these in another thread, but could very well be wrong. Either way, what is everyone's thoughts of waymarking USPS Blue Boxes? (If anyone can think of another title, please let me know)
Some things I have thought about:
1) Yes, I know USPS and not global. I don't know what other nations do, and I ...

rose red:Well, I called 1-800-266-2278 (Comcast).  I waited about 10-15 minutes for someone to answer.  When a person did answer she did not know what isp was and told me to contact Groundspeak.  I guess that she was saying that Comcast was not causing the problem.
Works at comcast customer service, and doesn't know what an isp ...

I see similar things throughout the site, and I'm sure groundspeak is working to fix all of those.
For me, usually just refreshing the page works. Doesn't always work, but more often than not it has for me. So when you're at the waymark's page, refresh that page and then click on the link to edit the page.
No guarantees, I just know this has ...

dopeyduck:Bummer, Well I can't meet all 3 of the requirements for Festivals (I've already had one WM denied due to lack of photos so I wont even bother trying again), and its not a permanent fixture so it wont work under Local Tourist Attraction.
I may contact the Holiday Display group leader to see how strict they are for lit houses. It just ...

Jake39: rmikelyons:No one noticed the BIG difference between those two corn mailboxes?
First one had a corn theme going on with a nice metal pole to look like a stalk. Second one had corn on a wood pole.As mentioned in the above comment ... It is not the size, I mean the ''Pole'' that counts.   but the box (Pun intended)
Ah, forgot about ...

Never heard the word soapbox used as a verb, but it works quite well.
I think you bring up a lot of good points. For commercial cats, it's fairly objective and easy to verify. Other cats, like headstones for those who died at age 100+, the criteria is fairly objective. The person had to be aged 100+ at time of death. Others, like funny ...

silverquill:Then there are regional places like Furr's Cafeteria.  I remember one in Colorado, but they are a Texas company with about 50-60 outlets in six states.
We used to have 2 or 3 Furr's in Colorado Springs, but I haven't seen any in Colorado for nearly a decade.
